Hosting your own GFTG Member site is easy. You can make it as simple or as complex as you’d like. Here we offer a few tips to get you started.
Personalize your site
We choose the look of the GFTG site carefully. However, you may want to select a slightly different look or layout for your own GFTG site. Theme options will be added as we grow. We’ll be adding tips on each individual theme in the future. To choose your theme:
Admin > Presentation > click on any theme and view your site to see the new look!
Write Posts
You may choose to simply post information in a blog format, where each entry will follow another in chronological order, following this path:
Admin > Write > Posts
Write Pages
If you want to create “static” information on pages in addition to blog posts choose to write a “page” instead of a “post.” The check box under the create text area controls whether you’ll see the page you create in your site navigation bar:
Admin > Write > Pages
About Ads
GFTG has “hard coded” Google Adsense ads into the themes provided for member’s use in order to help support GFTG, our hosting and operating expenses as well as our long term mission.
These ads are “content based” which means Google places ads based on your site content and text. If your site is displaying non-golf ads try utilizing the “post slug” and “tag” fields; make sure you include the word “golf” in both and the ads will better reflect golf related content.
Adding Photos and Effects to Your Text
Your GFTG site comes with a WYSIWYG visual editor for writing content (a simplified version of what you might be used to in Word or other text editors). The visual editor helps format your content as it will appear on your web site. It isn’t perfect so please have some patience and flexibility (hey, it’s free!). Using the “code” tab in the editor, you may also choose to use HTML or write “code” for your web pages, if you have the know-how (if you already know how to do that, you’re probably not using our basic help section!).
Our pages are powered by Wordpress MU. You can find in-depth details about how to customize your GFTG pages in their codex (instructions) and forums (on-line group discussions).
